Infertility Test — Types of Infertility Tests -

Tests and Medications

There are a number of tests and medications associated with infertility and its treatment—and then of course, there’s the pregnancy test.

Blood Tests

Many blood tests are performed at specific times during a woman’s menstrual cycle to measure hormone levels, ovarian reserve and whether or not ovulation has occurred. You doctor or nurse may refer to FSH and estradiol tests as “day-three” tests, because they are performed on the third day of your menstrual cycle. Other blood tests include prolactin and androgen.

Anyone have scary side effects on DHEA?

I took it in the past because my DHEA was tested several times and was consistently below normal. After taking it (25 mcg for 1 week, then split the capsules so I was taking about 12/day after that), I got pregnant naturally. That and accupuncture were the only things I was doing differently that time, and I do believed it (& 3 mos of accupuncture) helped me get pregnant. I stopped it though b/c I didn’t know if it was safe in pregnancy (and couldn’t get a straight answer from the doc) and in hindsight maybe I should have continued at least for the first trimester. After I quit dhea, I miscarried.

Low Sperm Count; Did the vitamins help?

To All:

I just wanted to share my story. My wife and I tried but didnt try to conceive for two years. I had SA done two months ago and my count was really low (4 mil) and my morphology was also down (9%) but my motility was good (52%). A friend told us about this website three months ago and I started to read all about vitamins to help my sperm count. My wife and I went to the doctor at the beginning of November to see if there was anything wrong with her. The doctor basicly told us that I was wasting my money with the vitamins but I kept taking the vitamins with the thought it isnt going to hurt. She was having tests done but didnt get through all her test because last Friday she found out she was two weeks pregnant.

Magic foundation for children’s growth : When My Child May Have Fertility Problems

Thinking about your own children having children of their own may be something that you can push aside for now. If you are even luckier, you may never even have to face the issue of your child having fertility problems in their adulthood. However, there are certain conditions that may be discovered at birth or later during childhood in both boys and girls that make it obvious that, if they become interested in parenthood, they will have to consider alternatives. Certain medical fertility conditions that may develop during infancy or childhood and their treatment may also carry a risk of subsequent infertility, if there is damage to the sex organs or the body’s ability to make certain hormones. For assistance on this subject, feel free to call our office or email us for confidential help. Call: (708) 383-0808 or email: GRAC@magicfoundation to directly contact a parent of an affected child.

Talking with a child

When talking about such conditions, a child should never be told that he or she will not be able to become a father or mother. Such discussions should be gauged to the age and level of understanding of the child or adolescent. If appropriate, it may be reassuring to point out that parents of adopted children or children born using assisted reproductive techniques (ART) or are loved and become just as precious to their parents as children born the most common way.

Drug prevents male fertility loss after chemotherapy

An injection of an experimental drug could protect men against losing their fertility while undergoing cancer chemotherapy. The drug prevents the loss of testicular mass usually associated with chemotherapy when it is given to mice in combination with conventional cancer drugs.

The drug, called AS101, has already been shown to protect against hair loss and bone marrow damage caused by chemotherapy, and also makes tumours more receptive to treatment. It is currently in phase II clinical trials in humans for those purposes.

Chemotherapy can cause male infertility by reducing the number of sperm produced or by affecting the sperm’s ability to fertilise a female egg. Sometimes this is temporary but it is estimated to be permanent in between 45% and 80% of cases, depending on the type of drug used and how long it is given for.

Secondary Infertility Success Stories

There’s a lot of myths surround secondary infertility as it’s not a very popular condition. So naturally there’s not a lot of secondary infertility success storiessurrounding the secondary infertility condition. Before we continue, let’s discuss what is secondary infertility and why is it that there’s not a lot of success stories surrounding it. (other than the reason given above) First of all, secondary infertility couple look, well, totally normal! They don’t look like they have any condition at all that has a name “infertility” tagged at the end of it. This is because they don’t look infertile at all. If you think I’m talking about the general appearance of the couple, you’re mistaken because I’m talking about the children that are tagging along with the couple. That’s why many people don’t think of them as “infertile” anymore than a normal couple that don’t have this condition.
